5 Tips for a relaxed wedding morning

The big day has arrived – months, possibly years, of tastings, makings, fittings and table plan writings have all come down to this.

The showdown.

The big kahuna.

The main event.

No stress though, right? …..right?

Things can quickly become overwhelming, you probably woke up early, your mind will be completely occupied by thoughts of the day’s events and for some – a hissy fit/total meltdown is just a burnt piece of toast away.

As a wedding photographer, I have attended many a chaotic preparation house, so here are my top five tips for a relaxed wedding morning:

  1. Muscle. I’m not talking about strippers – that ship has sailed sweet cheeks. I’m talking about cleaning. Start with a clean, minimalist as you can, house. Ain’t no one brings clutter like a tribe of bridesmaids bring clutter…
  1. Know your Bridesmaids. Name their dresses, label the hangers or discreetly initial a label. The last thing you want to be worrying about is the fact that cousin Hannah with her ample bosom has just split the zip on your sister’s dress.
  1. Step away from the prosecco sister. It’s easy to get carried away with your crew, but chances are you haven’t managed to stomach more than a few crumbs, so take it easy on the fizz. No one likes a boozed up bride at church. Fact.
  1. Find an Errand Runner. Every wedding has them; ideal candidates for the job are brother’s girlfriend or groom’s sister. There for the prep by default and raring for wedding action. Jobs for ER’s include (but are not limited to) answering the door, screening calls, making tea and bridesmaid entertaining. These people are invaluable; do not abuse them.
  1. Step back and breathe. This is your day. Everyone here loves you. Look around, savour it, revel in it. You’re about to have the best day of your life, don’t sweat the small stuff. Don’t let too many people share this part of your day, just the crème de la crème. It’s ok to be however you are, just enjoy it.

… oh… and make sure your wedding photographer always has a brew, cool?
